Since 1978 the Camas-Washougal Historical Society as worked to preserve and protect the cultural heritage of Camas & Washougal.
The Camas-Washougal Historical Society opened their first museum space in 1981, in the basement of the Camas Library. Members of the community jumped at the opportunity to share the artifacts they had collected, and the stories behind them. Almost immediately the Camas-Washougal Historical Society's museum outgrew the space, with so many artifacts that it was impossible to house them all in the basement of the Camas Library.
After a lot of planning, and many generous donations, in 1996 the Camas-Washougal Historical Society was able to open a permanent museum space. And that is how the Two Rivers Heritage Museum came to be!
Here at Two Rivers Heritage Museum, we are proud to say that we were built exclusively by volunteers and donations, and we have continued to be able to grow and expand because our community members value preserving and protecting our local history so that these artifacts and stories will be around for generations to come.
But our work goes beyond simply preserving the past, because we are working to make history come alive for our communities! We provide curated experiences at the Museum through field trips and group tours. We also bring artifacts to our communities through our Mini Museum and at special community events. We provide history talks and create self-guided walking tour maps for our community to learn more about specific local topics. And we hope to be able to expand what we are able to offer and continue to grow as we serve Camas, Washougal, and all of Southwest Washington!
