HOPE and HEALTH for CHILDREN SINCE 2001

Family Solutions is a community-based, comprehensive behavioral health provider cultivating the wellness of Southwest Washington by offering hope and health to children, youth, and families regardless of their ability to pay.  We provide compassionate mental health services including individual, family and group therapy, family support services, care coordination, psychiatric evaluation for medication management services, and peer support counseling. We believe children are resilient and have the capacity to heal from adverse childhood experiences such as neglect, abuse, trauma and loss. Some of our clients are as young as 3 years old.

OUR STORY

Laura Osburn started Family Solutions in 2001 to serve the mental health needs of adopted and foster children. Laura's vision was to give first-class care to the children who are most prone to falling through the cracks of traditional healthcare and child welfare systems. Since then, our scope of work has broadened significantly to include all children, youth and families throughout the community. Today, Family Solutions serves over 1500 families in Southwest Washington.

LAURA'S GARDEN

This year, our Give More 24 campaign is dedicated to “Laura’s Garden,” a therapeutic space created in memory of our beloved founder who passed away in 2022. Laura believed deeply in the healing power of nature and the hope it can bring to children and families. She often spoke of creating spaces where growth, resilience, and connection could flourish—where peace could be found in the midst of life’s challenges. By making the restorative effects of nature accessible to the children, families, caregivers and staff of Family Solutions, Laura's Garden will continue her legacy of compassion and healing for generations to come.

A group of our therapists collaborated with renowned local landscape architect Brian Bainnson to conceptualize a space that honors Laura's memory and her vision of providing the absolute best environment for children and their families to heal. A bench honoring Laura and her husband John and their commitment to health and hope for children will anchor the garden's seating area, a gift from their family.

The entrance to our building naturally divides the two sides of the design. The south side of the garden is designed for children to enjoy nature play while caregivers watch comfortably close by. The design includes boulder seating, an animal statue for climbing and kid-sized paths. A child can get out their nervous energy in the play space before meeting with their therapist for the tough work that is often part of their mental health journey.

Caregivers are in mind for the area Brian and our therapists collaborated on north of our lobby doors. A thoughtful use of the small space creates pockets of privacy for a parent to rest or read during their child's session. The soothing sounds of water and plantings with year-round interest create an environment for moments of solitude and reflection.

YOUR SUPPORT MEANS HEALTH and HOPE for CHILDREN

Today we hope to raise $50,000 towards the $150,000 needed to bring Laura's Garden to life for the children and families we serve, with a goal of breaking ground in the spring of 2026. Your donation builds upon Laura Osburn's belief that every child, no matter their circumstances, deserves access to the best mental health services. This belief is more important now than ever before.

The design concept for Laura's Garden was led by Brian Bainnson. Brian is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and has dedicated his time to many mental-health focused projects, including the Portland Memory Garden, multiple therapeutic gardens for Legacy Health and the Warrior and Family Support Center in San Antonio, Texas. Our staff and volunteers collaborated with Brian on a space that would honor Laura's memory and the vision she had for making the highest quality mental health care available to every child.
