No Veteran Left Behind: How HEVIN Bridges the Gap

In our community, too many veterans are falling through the cracks. They return home ready to rebuild their lives, but when community resources run out—or don’t quite fit the need—they’re left stranded. That’s where HEVIN (Helping Every Veteran in Need) steps in.

At HEVIN, we believe no veteran should have to face their struggles alone. We’re here to bridge the gap between what’s available and what’s truly needed—whether that means helping a veteran keep their housing, fixing a vehicle so they can get to work, or finding mental health support in a crisis.

We are also a veteran resource hub, helping connect veterans to existing local programs such as housing, employment, and other vital services. We know we can’t do it all ourselves, so we work closely with other organizations to ensure veterans can access the best our community has to offer.

We don’t just respond to needs—we build community. HEVIN helps organize the Veteran Stand Down, an event that brings together veterans and service providers under one roof. Every November, we host VetsGiving, a free, Thanksgiving-style meal for all veterans and their families—with the delicious meal provided by Hop n grape.  It’s held at R.A. Long High School the Saturday before Thanksgiving, and it’s a joyful day full of fellowship, food, and fun, complete with free raffle prizes.

We also partner with PNW Vets to host a monthly social for veterans and families, offering activities like paintball, bowling, airsoft, axe throwing, and watching the fights together on TV—building friendships and support networks outside of formal programs. And each July 4th, we partner with Cowlitz Valley Runners to bring the Go Fourth Mile Run to Longview, celebrating our community and our freedom.

Every summer, we also put on our Annual Fundraiser Car Show, a family-friendly event that’s as much about community spirit as it is about supporting our mission.

This year, thanks to a $2,500 matching grant from the Firstenburg Foundation, your gift goes twice as far. Every dollar you give will be matched—dollar for dollar—up to $2,500. That means together, we can double the impact for our veterans.

We’re growing, too. Our office now hosts an accredited Veteran Service Officer and a counselor from the Portland Vet Center one day each week—making it easier for veterans to get the help they need, where they live. We’re also working toward building a peer support program to give veterans a stronger sense of community and connection.

Your donation to HEVIN during Give More 24! will directly fund urgent assistance and expand these life-changing services. You’re not just giving money—you’re giving hope, stability, and a reminder to our veterans that their community stands with them.

Today, you can be the bridge.[Donate now and double your impact]

We are a 501(c3) IRS approved charity, so your donation is tax deductible.
