Road and Trail

At Road & Trail, our mission is to improve physical fitness, mental health, self-esteem, and confidence within at-risk and underserved communities by removing barriers to participation in local runs, walks, and triathlons.

You may know us by our former name, WHY Community. While our name has evolved, our mission and impact remain the same. We are proud to continue this work as the same nonprofit, with an even stronger commitment to creating inclusive opportunities for movement, healing, connection, and achievement.

Our primary focus is youth, working to combat childhood obesity and promote lifelong healthy habits across all backgrounds. We also support veterans navigating PTSD, breast cancer survivors rebuilding strength and confidence, physically challenged athletes, and individuals and families who may not otherwise have the financial means to participate in community athletic events.

Each year, we provide more than 2,000 complimentary race entries to individuals in our community. These aren't just race entries—they are opportunities to experience something that can be truly life-changing. For many participants, crossing a finish line represents resilience, transformation, confidence, and a renewed sense of what they are capable of.

Beyond individual participants, we provide complimentary race entries to local nonprofits, helping fuel peer-to-peer fundraising efforts and giving communities a meaningful way to rally around causes they care about.

Since launching our programs, more than 10,000 individuals have crossed the finish line, and together, we have helped raise more than $2 million for nonprofits.

But the need continues to grow. We want to be able to fund every entry for someone who needs one, but we cannot provide these opportunities without fundraising and community support. Every free entry we are able to provide comes from the generosity of donors, sponsors, and partners who believe that financial circumstances should not determine who gets to experience the benefits of movement and community.
