STORM NATION FOUNDATION

In 2017, a young student transferred to Skyview High School after her family moved to Vancouver from the Seattle area. On that first day of her sophomore year, she walked into the school without knowing a single person. Her parents were worried. How would she fit in? Would she make friends? Would she find her "tribe" at Skyview? The answers were yes, yes, and yes. In fact, the student had what some would consider a storybook experience at Skyview. While her parents knew she was capable, they also recognized the role the school had played in her success. So much so that the student and her parents discussed the idea of giving back to the school that had welcomed her with so much support when she first entered the Storm halls three years earlier. From those discussions came a decision to create a small scholarship that would be awarded each year to a senior who experienced similar circumstances of transferring to Skyview and finding success. The intention was to start out small with a $500 grant. However, while working through the process of setting up their scholarship, the family discovered there was no group or organization whose mission was to raise funds to create and award Skyview specific scholarships. Consequently, they decided to dream bigger. They brought in some friends to help and with the support of Skyview Principal Andy Meyer, the group was able to partner with the Skyview Booster Club, enabling them to raise funds under the umbrella of their 501(c)(3) status. Two years later, they took the next step and officially became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization known as the Storm Nation Foundation. In their first five years, the Storm Nation Foundation has awarded close to $100,000 in scholarship funds. 

The Storm Nation Foundation believes Skyview is one of the best high schools in the state of Washington and represents the very best in public school education.
