A Pathway to Opportunity: The iUrban Teen Journey

In 2011, Deena Pierott had a vision—a single event in Vancouver, Washington to ignite a spark in youth who often felt overlooked. That spark became a movement, growing from one day of hands-on learning to a national program impacting thousands of students across the Pacific Northwest, Los Angeles, and beyond.

From that first event, iUrban Teen has remained steadfast in its mission to bridge the opportunity gap in STEM and arts education. Today, we stand as a beacon for African American, Latino, Indigenous, Pacific Islander, and other underrepresented youth, guiding them toward promising futures in high-demand careers.

But it’s more than workshops and scholarships. It’s about transforming lives. It’s about providing access to mentors, hands-on projects, and career exploration in fields where our youth are underrepresented. It’s about making sure every student feels seen, supported, and inspired to dream big.

Our Impact

We’re not just creating pathways—we’re paving them with success stories:

  • Over 20,000 students impacted through immersive workshops, career exploration, and mentorship.
  • Recognized by the White House as a Champion of Change for Technology Inclusion.
  • Industry partnerships with The NBA Foundation, Google, Microsoft, NASA, Intel, Blue Origin, and Boeing are bringing real-world tech experiences to our youth.

Bridging the Gap

For many of our students, the journey doesn’t end with a workshop. It continues through our Bridge the Gap Fund, providing essential support for airfare, laptops, books, housing, and food security. Because a student shouldn’t have to choose between feeding their mind and feeding themselves.

Programs That Inspire

  • iEngineer: Building bridges from the classroom to engineering careers.
  • iSpace: Launching dreams in aerospace and tech.
  • iSports: Using data analytics to turn passion for sports into viable career paths, thanks to NBA Foundation support.
  • iMentor: Connecting students with industry professionals for guidance and growth.
  • Plus More: From creative writing clubs to Parent Teachers Pathway programs,  we’re constantly expanding our reach to meet the needs of our youth and community.
