NWCAVE Update: The Berg Family
Marlene and Tom and their family continue to navigate the system. They have met with agencies for housing and services and this week they were able to rebook the hotel for another month, thanks in part to everyone's donations!
As the fundraiser comes to an end, anyone wanting to life their spirits feel free to mail The Berg Family c/o/NWCAVE 1314 Kauffman Ave #50, Vancouver, WA 98660.
The fundraiser for the Bergs, raised just under $16,000. Thank you so very much! NWCAVE contributed $1,319.18 for the immediate need of shelter, a donor and her husband paid for a large storage until November for the family, and OnPoint Removal company contributed their time and services at no cost to the family. The family has received $6,976.57 thus far, those funds were used for hotel, food shopping, gas, etc.
NWCAVE continues to help the family look for immediate needs to move on, understand the circumstances, both the Marlene and Tom are doing okay. They are very thankful for everyone's help and support.
COMMUNITY ALERT: The Berg Family Needs Our Support
NWCAVE was recently made aware of the heartbreaking eviction of the Berg family — an 82-year-old disabled Vet, his 83-year-old wife, their adult son, and 9-year-old- grandson — who were forced out of their Clark County home of 15 years. The Bergs fell on hard times earlier this year. Mr. Berg is bedridden with multiple disabilities, and his wife — his primary caregiver — relies on their son, who recently had to quit his job to care for both parents. Despite going through the full legal process, receiving a short extension from the court, and knowing the deadline to leave was approaching, this family still faced a devastating outcome.
When eviction day came, everything the Bergs owned was thrown out of the home — some items even tossed from a second-story window, shattering belongings that held 15 years of memories. After giving so much of their own money over the years for repairs, appliances, and upkeep of this rental home, this was how they were treated in their final days there.
Last night, Mr. and Mrs. Berg stayed in a motel. Their son and grandson slept at a rest stop in their truck. NWCAVE has provided shelter for the next week for the family in addition connecting them all to resources for shelter, legal support, and care for Mr. Berg’s health needs.
Evictions happen, but this level of inhumanity should never happen to anyone — let alone a family who called this house home for over a decade.
We’ll continue sharing updates as we learn more. In the meantime, please share this post to raise awareness and help connect the Berg family with any additional community resources that may be available.
Funds on this fundraiser campaign, will be provided to the family. So, let's all #GiveMore24 in the month of September!
