2026 UPDATE ON THE BERG FAMILY
The letter below was sent by Marlene Berg for NWCAVE to share with he public.  National Women's Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE) has provided them shelter, food, and gave them the money raised from the public.  They have received beyond what was raised as donors came forward to help with in-kind services and contributions.

We have provided as much as we can with the resources our agency has. Our hearts break for them, sadly, there are so many just like them in need tonight as well.

We asked Marlene to write the public an update.  If you would like to send them a card, please send to Marlene and Tom Berg
c/o NWCAVE 1314 Kauffman Ave #50, Vancouver, WA 98660.

FROM MARLENE AND TOM
To whom it may concern,

My husband and I are in our 80s and on a fixed income. We were evicted from our rented house of 15 years under very troublesome behavior on our landlords part. Most of our belongings were put on the street where they were ransacked and ruined. We have been living in a hotel for the last 3 months which has depleted our ability to sustain. The cost of living in a hotel is far higher than we can afford. In an effort to find a new house we have been scammed twice.

We are beyond frustrated and worried. We are looking for a house or single level dwelling that we can afford on a fixed income.  We have applied for assistance through the VA but this will take time that we do not have the luxury of at this moment. We are in need of an Angel who would be willing to work with us in our current situation.

God bless you,
Marlene and Tom Berg.

COMMUNITY ALERT: The Berg Family Needs Our Support

NWCAVE was recently made aware of the heartbreaking eviction of the Berg family — an 82-year-old disabled Vet, his 83-year-old wife, their adult son, and 9-year-old- grandson — who were forced out of their Clark County home of 15 years.  The Bergs fell on hard times earlier this year. Mr. Berg is bedridden with multiple disabilities, and his wife — his primary caregiver — relies on their son, who recently had to quit his job to care for both parents. Despite going through the full legal process, receiving a short extension from the court, and knowing the deadline to leave was approaching, this family still faced a devastating outcome.

When eviction day came, everything the Bergs owned was thrown out of the home — some items even tossed from a second-story window, shattering belongings that held 15 years of memories. After giving so much of their own money over the years for repairs, appliances, and upkeep of this rental home, this was how they were treated in their final days there.

Last night, Mr. and Mrs. Berg stayed in a motel. Their son and grandson slept at a rest stop in their truck.  NWCAVE has provided shelter for the next week for the family in addition connecting them all to resources for shelter, legal support, and care for Mr. Berg’s health needs.

Evictions happen, but this level of inhumanity should never happen to anyone — let alone a family who called this house home for over a decade.

We’ll continue sharing updates as we learn more. In the meantime, please share this post to raise awareness and help connect the Berg family with any additional community resources that may be available.

Funds on this fundraiser campaign, will be provided to the family.  So, let's all #GiveMore24 in the month of September!
