Twelve years ago I walked into Clark College as a two-time high-school dropout on the verge of a breakdown that would see me attempt to cut my life short. I was ready to give up on myself. Clark College — and the determination to keep going — changed everything for me.
Over the last 12 years I’ve been part of this college as a student, employee, and ally. I’ve met some of the most fascinating, motivating, and life-changing people there — and they all have one thing in common: they came through Clark as students, just like I did. Maybe like some of you reading this did, too.
Community college is the story of second chances. For some it’s a chance to do it right this time; for others it’s finally being able to access education after years of hard work and saving. Clark College is where those stories happen — and as an alum, I’m living proof.
Someone recently asked me, “Why bother spreading the word? I don’t know anyone who can make a million-dollar gift.” Me neither. But I do know a lot of people who could spare $5, $10, or $25 — like I just did. Those small gifts add up fast. If we all chip in what we can, it becomes a huge, meaningful impact. So let me issue a challenge to my network. Can my friends, family and colleagues come together to raise $500 for Clark Students by September 25th? Let's find out!
